Who is eligible to apply for a grant from the Leonian Foundation?
- 501(c)3 organizations in the United States that are primarily devoted to photography, documentary photography, and/or photography education
- Individuals working closely with a fiscal sponsor within the United States
- First time applicants are encouraged to submit a letter of inquiry before applying. Letters of inquiry may be sent to Judith Lane at Judith.lane@leonianfoundation.org.
- Grants to organizations typically range from $3,000-50,000
- Grants awarded via fiscal sponsor range from $1,000-15,000
- Projects and programs related to the exhibition, education, preservation, and dissemination of photography
- U.S. organizations, citizens, or residents
- Organizations without 501(c)3 status
- Projects/programs that support the work of non-U.S. citizens or residents
- General operating expenses
- Salaries or allocations of salaries
- Administrative costs
- Motion pictures, films, or videos
- Multi-year grants
- Capital campaigns
- Individuals or projects/programs without fiscal sponsors
- Grants are awarded annually.
- The grant cycle opens on December 1st and closes on February 15th at midnight.
- Late applications will not be accepted.
- Grantees will be notified by May 15th.
- If you are eligible to apply, you will first need to create an account on Submittable. The link to our Submittable page can be found by clicking on the Application tab on the Foundation’s website.
- Please ensure that all necessary information is filled out before submitting your proposal.
- If you experience any issues with the online form, contact support@submittable.com
- Grantees are required to submit both an interim and a final report.
- Final reports must include documentation of use of funds, an updated budget, sample photographs, and copies of promotional materials that credit the Leonian Foundation.
